How to show desktop icon.

To show any icons on desktop use this option. To show icon tick mark the check box. You can choose from internet explorer, my computer, my documents, my network place and recycle bin.

Check the icon :- which you want to display on desktop.

How to disable balloon tips

To disable balloon tips which occur in all applications that supports windows themes.

Uncheck this box :- enable balloon tips

Hide name for start menu

If you want to use new start menu in XP and same time do not want to display user name in start menu use this option.

If you check the show name on start menu box your name will be displayed at the top of the start menu. Not available in classic menu.

How to hide notification icon box

If you unchecked the show taskbar notification icons box then all taskbar notification icons will be hidden overriding a anysetting you may have customized .

How to hide low disk space warning

If window detect low space in any drive it would start popping a low space message in task bar. You can remove this message.

Uncheck this options :- warning on low disk space

How to remove program from start menu

With this option you can control which program should be appear in start menu list or which not. Just uncheck the unwanted program.

Allow the following applications to appears in the most frequently used programs section of the start menu. 

How to select first icon on desktop

After changing this setting you may need to select arrange by name from the desktop context to take effect.

To Show My computer icons.

With this option you can choose which options should appear in my computer. You can show or hide control panel options in my computer. As well as you can also choose whether "Files stored on this computer" should appear in my computer or not.

Select the icon which you want to display in my computer.

If you select these options 
both icon will display in my computer

If you uncheck these options

Both options will remove from my computer

To hide any drive from my computer

Following option would be helpful if you want to hide any drive from my computer.

Just uncheck the drive you want to hide

We hide c drive for example, result you can see in my computer

To change the location of Desktop, My documents, program , start menu

If want to change the locations of Desktop, My documents, program , start menu. This option can do it for you. Choose special folder sub key from my computer main key. Select the folder from left side which location you want to change.

Select special folder and click on change locations

To disable auto play

Whenever you attach external drive with system it would try to play it. This feature is called auto play with this trick you can stop any particular device form auto play to removable media.

Uncheck the drive on which you do not want auto play facility.

If you just want to disable auto play for CD DVD or Removable media uncheck these options despite of above options

To add program in auto play menu

Whenever you insert any CD DVD or removable media in computer XP try to play it. After reading its content XP opens a auto play menu. With this trick you can add any special program which you want to handle the removable devices.

Use create button to select the new program

To hide drive letter

With these option you can show all drive letter after the label, show all drive letters before the label, show network drive letters before the label, and show local drive letter after the label, or never show drive letters.

To choose customized drive latter select the radio button of you choice.

To hide option from control panel.

Sometimes you want hide some particular options form control panel so other user can not access these options. With this trick you can remove options from control panel.

To remove option from control panel remove the trick.

How to change mouse setting in XP

Widow display all available options of menu items when we right click on it. With following option you could control the speed in which it opens.

Select mouse option

Speed slider showing in right pane control the speed at which cascading menu automatically open when you move mouse over the menu items. The fastest setting causes them to open immediately. The slowest setting is extraordinarily slow.

You can set this speed after testing here to test the mouse speed setting right click the test icon.

When you keep mouse on any object it sense it and give you a brief description about it with this option you can control time in which it should sense.

Select Hover subkey from mouse options

For a hover to be detected, the mouse must remain within a small region for the specified hover time. The size of the region is determined by the hover sensitivity.

To test the mouse hover settings move the mouse to the test icon when a hover is detected the icon will change

With this option you can control the default behavior of mouse scrolling

Select Wheel subkey from mouse options

Check the "Use mouse wheel for scrolling" box to enable the use of the mouse wheel to scroll data. When the mouse wheel is enabled you can specify whether rotating the wheel should cause data to scroll by a page or by a specified number of lines.

With this option you can do a tricky setting. Just enable it and mouse will automatically focus and select the window on which it would be

Select X-mouse subkey from mouse options

If you check the "Autoraise when activating" check box, then moving the mouse into a window will not only give it focus, but also raise it to the top as if you had clicked on it.

This setting requires " activation follows mouse " to be enabled for it to have any effect.

This setting is not available on all platforms. This is available only in pro editions its not available in home or basic editions

To test this setting open 3 windows and after enabling this options. Now rotate the mouse over these windows, you will when the window is now selecting automatically

How to customize internet explorer in XP

With this option you can set a autocorrect function which will autocorrect the backslashes to slashes in internet exploreraddress bar.

To change background of toolbar

With this option you can change the color of toolbar even you can set your picture as the background of toolbar. To make these change select toolbar background sub key under the internet explorer key.

Click on change and select the picture you want

To set default search engine

Internet explorer come with msn default search engine. You can change it to your favorite search engine. To make these change select search sub key under the internet explorer key.

Click on Create and Give the URL of your favorite search engine


To change notepad to view source of webpage

By default internet explorer opens source code of any page in notepad. With this option you can change the default programassociate with internet explorer. Select view source sub key under the internet explorer key.

Click on change program and select the program you want

Now go on internet explorer and select source from view menu

As you can see in image now source will open in HTML pad despite of notepad



To change busy icon in internet explorer

With this trick you can change the busy icon show in Internet explore. Select the small animation sub key under the internet explorer.

Choose custom and click on change Busy image to change Busy image
click on change Idle image to change Idle image


To select program for right click

Whenever you do right click XP show available options there to complete task.



With this trick you can customize these program. Select template in right pane and you will see all program available for right click.

Once you applied the change by clicking on ok these option will also be remove from right click menu.



How to set default registry in XP

  To disable autoexec.bat from running at start up

  By default XP try to execute Autoexec.bat file. This feature was introduced for software developer so they could put theirscript which require to auto run in Autoexec.bat file. Cracker could take advantage of this feature. They could insert harmful commands in Autoexec.bat to make system unstable. With this option you can stop autoexec.bat from running at startup.
  Uncheck this option: - Parse autoexec.bat at login
  

  To login without username and password

  Click on ok. Now on next boot time system would be automatically logged in from the user specified here.
  Check marks on :- Log on automatically at system startup
  Set username :- your login name
  Set password :- your login password
  
  Click on ok apply on. Now when system will restart it will not ask for username and password. It will automatically login from user specified in this option.

  To change login wallpaper

  XP comes with a default login screen. We need to set desire picture as desktop wallpaper first. With following option you can easily copy this wallpaper as logon screen.
  Check this options:- Wallpaper
  And click on Copy Now
  

  To set default registry

  On other websites several tips and tricks are available on XP most of them require modification in registry value. Use following option to restore registry in its original stage, if you have end up with a corrupt registry.
  Select registry from drop down menu and press repair now button
  

  To reset all folder setting to default

  Use following options to restore font folder, my music icon, my picture icon in their original stage.
  Select options that you want repair and click on repair now.

    To remove shortcut key image

    When you creates shortcut of any file folder or application an arrow start displaying at left end of shortcut. With these options you can change the predefined shortcut overlay. This change will effect the entire system. You can tweak the arrow show on shortcut.
    
    For instance if we select none options it will remove the short arrow
    Further you can choose any picture on the place of arrow from customize options

    To customize the default color scheme

    With this options you can customize the default color scheme of XP. Click the compressed files button to change the color explorer user to display compress files.
    
    For this change to take effect, you must also configure explorer to show compressed files in a different color.

    To change image quality

    The image quality slider control sets the fidelity of the thumbnail image. Higher quality thumbnails require more memory and disk space. To improve image quality you have compromise with disk space.
    
    The setting applies only to new thumbnails. Previously created thumbnails retain their original quality setting.

    To change multimedia keyboard key functions

    If your keyboard comes with navigation keys, you can use this option to customize what happens when they are pressed.
    

    To conserve memory explorer

    Remembers only a limited number of folders can be customized. Change this value to increase or decrease the number of customization explorer will remember. When this limit is exceeded customization for the folder least recently visited will be discarded.
    
    Select the amount of time in milliseconds each picture in the slide show should remain on the screen.

    Allows help on Start Menu check box controls whether help and supports should appears on start menu or not.

    Clear the "logoff on start menu" check box to remove the logoff options from the start menu.

    uncheck this options :- allow recent document on start menu

    Allow recent document on start menu check box enables the display of documents of the classic start menu and enables the list my most recently opened documents check box on the start customization dialog.

    check this options :- clear document history on exit check box

    Clear document history on exit check box controls whether explorer will clear the recent documents history run dialog history and typed URL history when you log off.

    uncheck this options :- maintain document history check box

    Maintain document history check box enables the tracking of recently opened documents of the start menu and on the file menu of many applications.

    To remove the history of accessed network resources

    uncheck this options :- maintain network history check box

    Maintain network history check box allows the my network places folder to track network resources containing recently accessed documents.

    To hide view workgroup computer options form workgroup

    
    uncheck this options :- show view workgroup computers

    Show view workgroup computers in net places check box controls whether view workgroup computer task will be available in the common task pane of the network places folder when you are on a home network.

    If you uncheck this option View workgroup computer option will be hide form my network place
    

    How to create virtual desktop in XP

    How to open command prompt here
    If you are a network administrator then you need to open command prompt to perform network related task day by day. With this tiny software you can open command prompt where you want despite of typing command in run menu each time.
    Download this software and install it.
    Click next on welcome screen ==> select I accept on license agreement screen ==> Click next on customer info screen ==> Select complete on setup type ==> Click on next on ready to install ==> Now click on finish.
    Once this power toy installed you can open command prompt at any place
    To open command prompt do right click.
    
    To customize desktop
    This is the one of my best tools. With this we can use four desktop at a times. You can customize all these desktop individually. You can set different wallpaper, color scheme, and profile on each desktop.
    Download this software and install it.
    Click next on welcome screen ==> select I accept on license agreement screen ==> Click next on customer info screen ==> Select complete on setup type ==> Click on next on ready to install ==> Now click on finish.
    To use desktop manager right click on task bar and select desktop manager form toolbar.
    
    You can see four numbered radio button on task bar with a MSVDM (Microsoft virtual desktop manager) button.
    
    To use any of these virtual desktop, click on it. By default these desktop comes in shared mode. Means change in one desktop will automatically replicate in all four desktop. But you can stop sharing of desktop.
    To stop sharing do right click on any of these desktop and uncheck the shared desktop options.
    
    Now you have four separate desktop to use. You can switch on any of desktop by clicking on it. Even more you can see all four desktop at same times.
    To see all desktop do right click on MSVDM button and select show preview

        Prevent application from stealing focus.
        Some time you have noticed that you are working on an application and at the same times another applications sent its pop up in task bar to get your attentions. You can control this behavior by Prevent application from stealing focus options.
        
        Size of Alt + Tab Windows
        We frequently use alt + tab key combinations while we work on many applications at the same times to switch form one application to another applications. With this option you can set the size of windows that appear when you press Alt + Tab.
        

        How to create answer file for XP unattended installation

        During a standard installation of XP setup requires several information's to be filled from user such as the time zone, network settings, and so on. One way to automate an installation is to create an answer file that supplies the required information. Answer files are really just text files that contain responses to some, or all, of the questions that Setup asks during the installation process. After creating an answer file, you can apply it to as many computers as necessary.
        In this article we would create answer file for unattended installation and in next article we would use this answer file for unattended installation. We need to execute Setupmgr.exe to create answer file.
        What is Setupmgr.exe ?
        Setupmgr.exe stands for Windows Setup Manager.
        Its provides a wizard-based interface that allows you to quickly create an answer file for an unattended installation of Windows XP Professional. Windows Setup Manager enables you to create scripts to perform customized installations on workstations and servers that meet the specific hardware and network requirements of your organization.
        Creating Answer File
        • Create a new folder and rename it with deploys tools
        • Insert the Windows XP Professional CD in the CD-ROM drive.
        • If the Welcome To Microsoft Windows XP screen is displayed automatically, click Exit to close that screen.
        • Now go on my computers select CD drive and choose open options from right clicks
        locate the \Support\Tools\ Deploy.cab files on the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM
        
        Copy this file and paste it in deploy tools folder created in first step
        Now right click on it and select Extract here option
        
        Delete all other files expect Setupmgr.exe
        Double click on Setupmgr.exe
        
        Click Next on Windows Setup Manager Wizard.
        
        Select Create A New Answer File and click Next
        
        Select Windows Unattended Installation and click Next
        
        Select Windows XP Professional and click Next
        
        Select Fully Automated, and click Next
        
        Select No, This Answer File Will Be Used To Install From A CD, and click Next
        
        Select I Accept The Terms Of The License Agreement, and click Next
        
        Type your name in the Name box and your organization in the Organization box, and click Next
        
        Leave the default settings on the Display Settings page, and click Next
        
        Select the appropriate time zone, and click Next
        
        Type the product key which you received with XP cd and Click Next
        
        In the Computer Name text box, type a name for the computer, and click Add. Repeat this step to add additional computers to the installation and Click Next.
        
        Gives Administrator Password In Answer File, and then click Next
        
        Select Typical Settings and Click Next
        
        Select Workgroup and Click Next
        
        Leave default setting and click next
        
        Leave default setting and click next
        
        Leave default setting and click next

        Give the location of desktop and click next
        
        Window Setup Manager would create a unattended.txt file on desktop. We would use this file for unattended installation in next article.
        How to make XP unattended installation CD

        Standard installation of XP requires several information's from user. To provide this information automatically we have a created an answer file in our previous article
        How to Create Answer File for xp unattended installation
        Now in this article I would use this answer file to create an unattended installation cd of XP.
        Create a folder named xpcd on c:\ drive
        
        Copy the entire windows XP pro CD
        
        Paste windows XP pro CD in xpcd folder 
        
        Now Open My Computer Select folder options from tools menu
        In view tabs remove the tick marks from hide extensions form known file types
        
        Go to the folder where you have saved you answer files there would be two file unattended.txt and unattended.udb
        Slect the unattended.txt and rename it with winnt.sif 
        
        Copy the winnt.sif and past it in c:\xpcd\I386
        
        Don't forget to tick marks back to hide extensions from known file types in folder options after renaming the unattended.txt 
        
        • Now you need iso maker tools download it from here
        • And extract it in a folder
        • And Click on Image WinXP Pro
        
        This tools opens in command prompt and will make xpcd image in c:\ drive 
        
        Now open your CD burning software I have used Nero. Choose burn image to disk options 
        
        Now select the C:\WXPUNA_EN.ISO image files to burns  
        Let the nero burn image on CD
        Congratulations! you have successfully completed all the necessary steps required in making windows pro unattended CD. Now you can install Windows XP pro in any computer without any user interface from this cd.
        How to make windows XP bootable disk

        In this article we would create a window XP bootable disk from copied files. This is very useful when you have copied files of XP. To keep backup we generally copy the entire disk on hard disk. But you could not create a bootable disk from these files. To make a bootable XP disk from copied files we need to add boot files with image on CD.
        The following items are required:
        • A copy of the original Windows CD/DVD.
        • A copy of the Boot Files Download from here.
        • A minimum of 1GB available hard disk space for CD's.
        • A minimum of 5GB available hard disk space for DVD's.
        Extract the zip file 
        
        This zip file contain all required boot files
        
        Create a folder named xpcd on c:\ drive and copy all the files and folder of windows XP cd in it 
        
        Now start your CD burning software I have used NERO for it
        
        Select new options from files menu then choose CD-ROM(BOOT)
        In right pane do following settings
        • Select boot tab
        • Select Image file from Source of boot image data
        • Click on Browse and choose boot.ima ( where you have extract image files)
        • Check Enable expert settings (for advanced users only!).
        • Set Kind of emulation: to No Emulation.
        • Set Load segment of sectors (hex!): to 0000.
        • Set Number of loaded sectors: to 4.
        • 

          Click on the ISO tab.

          • Set File name length to Max. of 31 chars (ISO Level 2).
          • Set Format to Mode 1.
          • Set Character Set to ISO 9660 (standard ISO CD-ROM).
          • Check the Joliet check box.
          • Check all Relax ISO Restrictions.
          • Check Allow more than 64 characters for Joliet names.
          

          Click on the Label tab.

          • IN ISO 9660 text field Enter volume lable
          • IN Joliet text boxes. Enter system identifier label
          

          Click the Burn tab.

          • Check Write.
          • Check Finalize CD (No further writing possible!).
          • Set Write Method to Disc-at-once. (We have had Track-At-Once work as well.)
          

          Click the New button

          Locate the folder C:\xpcd ( OR where you have copied xp cd) 
          Select everything from the folder and drag it to the ISO compilation panel.
          and Click the burn CD Dialog button
          
          Verify the settings. Correct if needed. 
          Click the Burn button.
          This will launch CD burning wizard
          
          Click the OK button
          
          Congratulations you have successfully created windows xp bootable cd.
          Now you can use this window XP bootable cd for installation.

          How to install windows XP from pen drive step by step guide

          In this article we would prepare pen drive as a window XP installation media. Once we prepared this pen drive you could install XP from this. This is useful for notebook or CDROM / DVDROM less system.

          Requirement

          • Windows Xp installation disk,
          • solution.rar file
          • Working pen drive of at least 2 GB.

          We need to transfer all XP installation media files into pen drive. If you don't have dump of XP CD on hard disk then you need to copy them from XP CD.

          Download this file solution.rar and extract it.
          

          Attach a pen drive (All data will be erase from pen drive)

          Open the folder where you have extracted the files from solution.rar and run HpUSBformat.exe.

          

          This command will detect your USB disk, if not, select form the list ( in this example my USB memory stick is drive M: )

          Now set these options

          • Volume label : - SYSTEM
          • Check marks on :- Create a DOS Start up disk
          • Select radio button :- Using DOS system files located at:
          • Give the path where you have extracted solution.rar (Give the path of DOS folder) files

          

          At this moment pen drive has become DOS bootable.

          Copy all other files from DOS folder to your USB disk. ( you can overwrite existing ones)
          

          Insert Windows Xp installation disk into CD-ROM and copy all files from CD to USB drive.

          Now pen drive should look like this
          
          Now you have a xp bootable pen drive.

          Now we have XP bootable pen drive. We would install XP from this pen drive.

          Boot system from this pen drive. If system does not boot from pen drive check first bootable media setting in BIOS.

          Step1:- When system is booted up, and you see command prompt, type sys d: and hit enter if you see system transferred- you have luck, FAT32 file system is on drive C:, you will not lose your data
          - go to step 5
          - if any problem appears go to step 2

          Step2:-REMEMBER, you will loose all data from drive C:/> - when system is booted up from USB, your drive C: appears as D:

          Step3:- Type format d:/q/s to format drive D:
          accept and when it is finished, go to step 5 ( you are lucky, you don't need to make partitions)
          otherwise go to step 4

          Step4:- Type fdisk and hit enter
          create new partition ( after restart boot with pendrive in)
          go to step 3 and format the partitions and come back here :)
          type pqmagic and set your new partition active 
          ( physical drive 2, Advanced A, set Active - S, are you sure - Y, Exit - X )

          Step5:-Type nc and hit enter, and using Norton Commander, copy all files form pendrive to disk C: ( you can overwrite existing ones)

          Step6:-Restart Laptop without pen drive in it (it should start from hard drive)

          Step7:-Type cd i386 and hit enter (it will enter i386 folder)

          Step8:-Type winnt and hit enter

          Step9:-this will launch xp installation process and you can install xp as you do with cd.

          How to make windows XP live cd step by step guide

          In this article we would make a Windows Live CD. With live CD you can easily run XP from CDROM. This is very helpful for troubleshooting. With this you can access a crash system. You can use Live CD to repair any corrupted window file. Even you can restore data. For instance you have important data in My Document folder, Desktop or in window folder and XP got corrupted. Reinstallation of XP would remove this data. In such a situation Windows Live CD is your helping hand to get this data back. Boot system with Live CD and copy your important data from window partition to other partition.
          Prequest and Preparation
          • One windows XP bootable cd
          • One CD burning software Like Nero
          • Windows live CD Creator software
          • Windows Live CD plugin
          • 700 Mb Free space on c:\ drive
          • Now Follow this step by step guide
            Create a folder named xpcd on c:\ drive
            
            Copy the entire windows XP pro CD
            
            Paste windows XP pro CD in xpcd folder 
            
            Now create a another folder named Plug_in
            
            Download these plugin and put it in plug_in folder
            Now Make a another folder named Live_cd 
            
            Now download this software and extract it in Live_cd folder 
            
            This ziped file contain following files 
            
            Now double click on pebuilder icon 
            
            On liesance agreement screen click yes
            
            In sources files give the location of C:\xp_cd or where you have copied XP Cd. In media output options select create IOS image and give the location where you want to store this IOS file ( don’t change file extension or file path unless you are a advance user ) Now click on plugin 
            
            Select Add options
            
            Give the path of Plug_in folder and select the file xpe-1.0.7 and click open 
            
            diloag box will show file xpe-1.0.7 Click on Ok 
            
            Now Select Startup Group and Disable it
            
            Now Select Nu2shell and Disable it also
            
            Once you have disable both Nu2shell and Startup Group Click on Close Now Click on Build button 
            
            Now Windows Live CD creation process will start if this process is completed without any error you are almost done.
            
            Note down the location where image file is saved
            
            Now open your CD burning software I have used Nero. Choose burn image to disk options 
            
            Now select (from where you have stored in our previous steps) the xplivecd.iso image files to burns
             
            Let the nero burn image on CD 
            
            Congratulations! Once you have burn this CD you can use this CD on any computer, note book, disk less computer, what all you need is boot from CDROM option enabled.
            Caution:- 
            It is a Windows Live CD so it will take time to launch windows don’t be panic if it take times to load. Its depend on your system configuration and memory status.

            How to remove Syskey and Administrator password

            How many times you have to reinstall window due to forget password of administrator or syskey? In lab scenario it's very common. Consider a situation where students form one batch were doing the practice on Server. They have set administrator password in all system and left the lab after the practice without telling you the password of Syskey and administrator. What will you do now? Format all systems No. we are telling you the way to reset the password and Syskey on window again.
            For demonstration purpose we are setting Syskey and administrator password on one computer.
            To set Syskey password
            Click on Start Menu and select run option
            Type Syskey in run window and press enter. This will invoke new windows.
            
            Now click on update button and set the desired password.
            
            Click on apply and ok.
            
            Remove Syskey and administrator passwords form XP VISTA Server 2003 and Server 2008.
            • Download this software
            • Extract this winrar file. It is a image file.
            • You can write this image with any image burning software. We are using our regular software Nero.
            • Now boot system form this CD.
            Press Enter on boot options.
            
            This window bootable Linux scripts will search your entire hard disk and show all the available partitions on hard disk.
            
            Select your windows partitions.
            Now it will locate windows registry and sam files paths.
            
            Press enter to accept the default value.
            You have four options to do
            • To reset windows user passwords press 1
            • To reset Syskey press 2
            • To use recovery console to repair windows press 3
            • To reset registry press 9
            • To quit for selection windows press q
            We will first reset Syskey so press 2 and enter.
            
            Scripts will confirm to disable Syskey. Press y and enter to confirm.
            
            Now we will reset windows administrator password.
            To reset administrator password press 1 and enter.
            
            Select the user to whom password you want to reset. In our example we are resetting user Vinita's password.
            
            Now press 1 and enter to clear the user password.
            
            Press ! sign and enter to come back on previous menu.
            
            Press q to quit form menu.
            Whatever change you have made till now will not save by defaults. In step4 of script we would save these changes.
            
            Press y and enter to save the change you have made so far.
            Now press ALT + CTRL + DEL to restart the system.

            How to recovery deleted data and partition step by step guide

            In our previous article we have installed DATA Recovery software. In this article we would use DATA Recovery software.
            Caution:-
            Do not try this process on your important data or partition. To avoid loose we will make an example partition and recover data from it.
            Complete these perquisite first
            • Make a partition of 100 Mb and rename it with test
            • Make a folder named recover_data on C:\>
            • Put some useless data on it
            • Download and install data recovery software
            Now delete this partition ( You can use computer management tools for this )
            
            Verify from my computer that you have deleted partitions
            
            Open the recovery software.Select partition recovery and click next
            
            On Next screen select your hard disk and click next
            
            Now software will start searching for deleted and formatted partition Let it Search
            
            On next screen it will show a list of deleted partition select the partition which you want to recover and click next
            
            Form this options your can narrow your recovery process to files levels if you want full recovery just check marks on all as shown figure
            
            Here you need to provide the location of folder where you want to restore the data and click on next
            
            Recovery process will start depending on selected data taken time could we various Once the process is completed click on finish
            
            Now go on the folder where you have recovered files
            
            Here a folder named ntfs will show open it
            
            Now click on Recycler folder In this there would be a folder Open it
            
            In this folder you will get all your data back
            
            Congratulation !!!! you have successfully recovered your deleted partitions data back
