Reset Windows administrator password in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7

This article describes how to reset Windows administrator password in Windows XPWindows Vista and Windows 7 without reinstalling the Windows OS and without using a password reset tool. This is the best and easiest method to reset Windows administrator password.

I have considered two scenarios
  • PC with two operating systems installed in it
  • PC with only one operating system installed in it

If your system has two Operating Systems (OS) installed in it, then the follow the steps given below to reset your Windows administrator password

  1. Boot your system in second OS.
  2. Open the drive where Windows OS is installed (for which you have to reset administrator password)
  3. Open 'Windows' folder, search 'System32' folder and open 'System32'folder.
  4. Search for 'sethc.exe' file inside 'System32' folder.
  5. Backup 'sethc.exe' file (Copy 'sethc.exe' and paste in 'My documents'folder.)
  6. Search for 'cmd.exe', copy and pasted that file in the same folder.
  7. Rename the file as 'sethc.exe'.
  8. Reboot the system.
  9. Boot your system in first OS.
  10. Once you see the logon screen, press 'Shift' key 5 times. Command prompt will open.
  11. Type the following command and press enter net usernew_password> where <admin_name> is your administrator user name and <new_password> is password you want to set for administrator
  12. Now you can log-in as administrator with the new password.
  13. Once you log-in, replace 'sethc.exe' in 'System32' folder with'sethc.exe' in 'My Documents' folder.
Note: Second operating system(OS) can be Windows or Linux.

If your system has only one operating system, get a Live USB and boot the system from USB. Once your system gets booted with Live USB, start from 'step 2' and follow the remaining instructions for resetting your administrator password.

Note: Live OS can be downloaded from internet and copied to USB drive. I used fedora live USB for resetting my PC's Windows adminstrator password.

Gujarat: India’s first ‘talking’ ATM inaugurated

India's first "talking" Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for visually impaired was inaugurated in Ahmedabad.

The ATM by the Union Bank of India is first-of-its-kind for the visually challenged and 4000th in the countrywide network of the state-run bank.

"The foundation stone of Union Bank building in Mumbai had been laid by Mahatma Gandhi. I am happy that the first accessible ATM is being started in the state of Gujarat, janambhumi and karambhumi of Gandhi," Union Bank of India Chairman and Managing Director DSarkar said after inaugurating the ATM at the Blind People's Association (BPA) here.

According to BPA functionaries, the users have to plug-in a headphone into the ATM which has a unique voice interface, and once it is done the machine guides them into further operations. The ATM can also be operated by wheelchair-bound person as well.
There are about 20,000 blind persons in Ahmedabad and they can use this ATM to the fullest extent. This ATM can be used by general public for transaction.
